MISSION

Shaun Singh Productions, (SSP) is an organization geared towards creating high quality dance, drama, film and theatre productions that stimulate social awareness. Combining entertainment and education, SSP utilizes the arts to deliver important messages to the public, while breaking boundaries with eclectic fusions of art and culture.

VISION

At the heart of SSP is a strong passion for the arts, culture and social consciousness. SSP strives to make people think, challenging traditional thought with exceptional productions. Born in Guyana of South Asian ancestry, Shaun's productions are heavily inspired by Indian culture, song and dance. Currently based out of Brooklyn, New York, Shaun is bringing his dream of directing and producing to life. Since 1994, SSP has evolved to embody a larger vision: helping people learn, grow and heal through the arts.

Sparked by Shaun's vision, SSP has grown into a family of artists, designers, theatre and film professionals who work collaboratively. Constantly seeking to make significant strides artistically, SSP's goal is to maintain a commitment to social responsibility. Essentially, SSP believes that art is not only entertainment, it is a medium that fosters awareness and allows individuals and communities to work towards social change.

Reaching New Heights
Artistically and Culturally

With a dynamic cast and a superb production team, "RANG: Shades of my Soul," was poised to reach new artistic heights from the very beginning. The aesthetic and visceral aspects of the performance were breakthroughs. The lighting, costume, and choreography captured hearts and brought about social consciousness artistically.

With little narration, the musical "RANG: Shades of my Soul," brought a wide range of emotions to life through its dynamic use of colors. Dramatic contrasts in vibrant light coupled with dark shadows were key to translating the dancers emotions. With compelling cultural influences, the costumes for "RANG" were designed to play with color and lighting. A lively combination of various types of South Asian dance -- including classical Bharatnatyam and popular folk -- with modern American dance is what ultimately allowed "RANG" its masterful success, taking its audience to new heights.

Breaking Barriers
Personally and Universally

A production with a purpose, "RANG: Shades of my Soul," sought to shed light on domestic violence. SSP's current production, "RANG", seeks to further break social and cultural barriers centered around domestic violence. Although women are the immediate victims of domestic violence, children and men also suffer the residual effects. If we, as a society, continue to ignore this devastating cycle of abuse, we only further perpetuate the problem. "RANG: Shades of my Soul" created the profound realization that domestic violence is a universal problem as well as a personal plague. The performance was aimed at opening hearts and minds, reaching an audience greater than the intended South Asian Diaspora. "RANG" hopes to push the envelope to explore the taboo subject of domestic violence on an even deeper level.

Domestic Violence Statistics are Alarming:

  • Domestic violence is the single greatest cause of injury to women
  • Every 15 seconds a woman in this country is beaten by her current or former partner
  • Studies report a range of between two and four million women being abused every year
  • Between 1,500 and 2,000 women are murdered each year by either their current or former partners (FBI)
  • 85-95% of victims of domestic abuse are women
  • As many as 2/3 of men who beat their wives also abuse their children
  • Nearly 1 in 3 adult women experience at least one physical assault by a partner during adulthood
  • 93% of perpetrators of domestic violence grew up in homes where domestic abuse was prevalent
  • 20% of all emergency room visits by women are the result of domestic violence
