New York, NY, July 16, 2004— On Saturday, July 31 at 8:00 pm, Dr. L. Subramaniam,
Kavita Krishnamurti, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Miya Masaoka and Seetaa Subramaniam
will heat up Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center with performances that are indescribable.
The highlights of this concert, ‘A Night of Fusion’, involve the coming together
of the elements of jazz, Carnatic music and Hindustani roots.
The evening will start with the theme, ‘A Night of Fusion is the rite to domestic violence awareness’; and the proceeds that are raised will be donated to Manavi, an organization dedicated to end all violence against women.
The launch of ‘A Night of Fusion’ is spearheaded by the renowned Indian Violin virtuoso, Dr. L. Subramaniam. His wide-range of musical activities rank him among the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world today. Subramaniam’s background includes training in both Western and Indian classical traditions. He has taken his sweet melodies to the most prestigious venues and concert series around the world, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Champs Elysses Theatre, Madison Square Garden and the United Nations. Subramaniam has collaborated with legendary musicians including Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Zubin Mehta, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Jazz greats Stephane Grappelli, Herbie Hancock, Joe Sample and the Crusaders. He has composed for, conducted and performed with the world's major orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Swiss Romande Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic and the New Zealand Symphony. Subramaniam has scored music for movie productions including Salaam Bombay and Mississippi Masala. He was the musical advisor for Peter Brooks' historical stage production of the Mahabharata and was featured as a soloist in Bernardo Bertulucci's Little Buddha.

Special musical guests include the Pop Vocalist, Kavita Krishnamurti performing hits from classics such as Khamoshi, to today’s Devdas, the funk-flavored sounds of Grammy® Award winning jazz legends, George Duke and Stanley Clarke, Miya Masaoka, with her virtuosic, improvisatory approach to the koto, and the “assured young soprano” newcomer Seetaa Subramaniam, who has been dubbed a “third generation musical prodigy” by the press.
