HISTORY
Today, Shaun Singh Productions takes pride in its integrity and originality. Shaun's experience at Brooklyn College served as a stepping-stone, allowing him to hone his skills and develop his craft. In 1994, SSP started building a reputation for itself with three successful stage shows. These productions laid the foundation for SSP and established it as both a creative and philanthropic force. On June 1, 2002, SSP brought the first South Asian dance theater show to the prestigious Broadway stage. "RANG: Shades of my Soul," was a musical chronicling a woman's emotions as a victim of domestic violence through vibrant colors, costume, imagery, song and dance.
The one night event made history on many levels:
- It was a first for South Asians on Broadway
- It was a first in raising awareness among South Asians about Domestic Violence, especially in such a creative way
- It was a first in combining Indian and Modern Dance to tell a story
"RANG: Shades of my Soul," was an important show for Shaun, as the central theme of domestic violence was inspired by his mother's own triumph and survival. "RANG" was further influenced by the strength of his wife and sister. All proceeds from "RANG" were donated to Manavi, a safe haven for victims of domestic violence.
Just as SSP accomplished a first with "RANG", Shaun and company continues to pave the path for other
new, groundbreaking productions. Shaun initially discovered his passion as a young man who was drawn toward the world of film. While currently working in the realm of theater, SSP eventually hopes to break into film -- bringing his vision back to the beginning.
With limited resources, SSP has been able to meet each one of its many goals to date. To move forward, SSP relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations to help bring the vision to the stage once more.
